Mid 19th Century French Sighthound Head snuff box made from porcelain and gilt metal.

Hinged cover engraved with flowers.

Likely by Samson.

Edmé Samson was born in Paris in 1810. His company Edmé Samson et Cie was created in 1845. The manufacture, which continued production until 1969, is known for copying designs of other porcelain makers. Samson Ceramics copied designs by Chelsea, Meissen, Sevres as well as many Chinese export porcelain items.

Not all Samson items are marked. Moreover, marks on many items of this manufacture were removed in order to pass for originals.

Edmé Samson et Cie products stand the test of time. Especially those items that were made in 19th century are now highly collectible.
